| MY LIFE IN A NUTSHELL. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 1961. I was born to Winifred and Charles William McKeever. Already had two sisters and a big brother (Sandra, Susan & Raymond). I am born spastic, now known as cerebral palsy, this is more than compensated by being born a Mackem and not a Geordie. 1963. Little brother, Charles William born. 1963. Doctor Who, my favourite TV programme airs on BBCTV. 1969. Begin attending Percy Hedley School, after an unsuccessful spelll at Barbara Priestman in Sunderland. Here, among other stuff, I go to abroad to Spain, discover girls and generally have fun. 1973. Sunderland win FA Cup. I didn't actually see this live as I'm away at a caravan for the weekend and the portable tv doesn't work. 1977. I leave school with 7 CSEs, and begin attending Sunderland Spastic Centre where I do exciting things like make coat hangers and filing bits of metal. 1982. I am selected by the centre manager to take in a workcamp in Scotland with the International Voluntary Service Teenage Project. This proves to be a turning point in my life as I become an adult volunnteer with the organisation. 1983. Adults and teenagers alike express a wish to work more with disabled people. To this end Interact is formed, initially to bring the two groups together and socialise. As time goes by a need to educate people about disability is recognised and a group within Interact. 1986-89. Interact secures funding two employ two part-time workers. I successfully apply for one of the posts with particular responsibility for the Disability Awareness Group. During this time I meet my first wife, the marriage lasts two and a half years - God bless you Arlene wherever you are. 1989-93. I get a place on the Gateshead Community Education Apprenticeship Course leading to a qualification in Community and Youth Work. 1993-5. Work in Hexham. 1997. After years of wondering I become a Christian. 1998. After three years or so I marry Tracy Brown.
